This celebration of the late great Gil Scott-Heron’s legacy explores the soul, vitality, power, humor, social activism, humanity, and dynamic messages of the artists’ music and poetry through an enthralling musical, visual and interactive arts journey.
Performers include Gil’s long time collaborator and friend Brian Jackson (keys, piano, flute); musical director Dexter Story; Rich Medina (narrative, spoken word); Mark de Clive Lowe (keys, piano); Miguel Atwood Ferguson (viola, guest arranger); Dwight Trible (vocals); Kamasi Washington (tenor sax), Trevor Ware (bass); Tony Austin (drums); Derf Reklaw (percussion, flute); Shafiq Husayn; Marcel Carmago (guitar); Tracey Wannomae (flute, woodwinds); Todd Simon (trumpet, flugelhorn, guest arranger); Gee Gee “Double G” Gallegos (baritone/alto saxophone, guest arranger); Elizabeth Lea (trombone); Carlos Nino (percussion, advisory); Nailah Porter (vocals); Jeremy Sole (KCRW, DJ, narrative) + very special guests continuously being added and surprises!
